Rosemarie Farrugia
LL.B, Dip. Not. Pub., M.A. (Bioethics), LL.D. (Melit.)
Dr Rosemarie Farrugia was born in 1990. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart School, St Julian's from 1995 up to 2006, after which she continued her post secondary studies at St Aloysius' College, Birkirkara. Having pursued the law course at the University of Malta, she first obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree in 2010, her Notary Public Diploma in 2011 and finally graduated as Doctor of Laws in 2014. Upon starting her pupillage in 2013, Dr Farrugia discovered her passion for litigation and it was then that she started to focus her career on it. She sat for the Maltese Bar Exam in January 2015 and was sworn in as an attorney in April of the same year. Following a brief stint as a trainee with the European Parliament Information Office in Malta after her doctoral graduation, Dr Farrugia spent three years as the main litigation lawyer at a local law firm in Valletta. It was there that she gained invaluable experience to branch out into a partnership for 5 years. In 2023, Dr Farrugia opened her own law firm, Farrugia Legal, in her hometown of Luqa.

Dr Farrugia's main focus is on civil litigation, but also practices family law, criminal law and employment law. She is a member of the Civil Litigation Panel of Legal Aid Malta and as of 2024, she had joined the panel of Arbiters for Domestic Arbitration with the Malta Arbitration Centre. In 2024, she was also appointed as Commissioner for Oaths. Dr Farrugia is also a regular guest speaker on a local radio programme where she discusses various legal topics.

In 2024, Dr Farrugia completed her Master of Arts in Bioethics, whereby she put forward her thesis entitled 'Regulating Surrogacy: Local and Cross-Border Implications' by which she proposed a draft bill to regulate surrogacy in Malta.

In her free time, Dr Farrugia enjoys cooking, travelling, painting, reading and expanding her knowledge. In fact, she has also successfully completed a number of courses in the History of Art and Greek Mythology. She also likes to go for walks with her dog, Neve.
